Kevin: In the beginning light Boom The first sound, struck on the one As opposed to the bang from an alternative drum Without eyes, mind or self still I observe The multiverse move then splinter toward innumerable curves There’s forms without words, purity states— Endless expanses of energy unfold into space Answers without questions, I was made to create No questions for the answers my hands readily shape Hands emerge from the need to touch what I make That urge leads to taste and a thirst for a place Thoughts become galaxies, revolutions of light Cradled by a darkness that was once called life Upon each force defined by its presence in time In time I feel they will confuse the creations of mine Cosmic forces emerge — My law governs their fate They reflect me to myself, myself ripples the lake. Kevin: Winter spring, summer autumn start again In the darkness, the first dawn, my first sun Is in the morning, mid day love, afternoon, early evening Sister sunset, mother moon Start again, start again, creating all things Start again, start again, can you see the light Big frame, small frame, worlds within worlds That govern the dynamics to my principal pearls Violent cycles, consume — reform then collapse The Opposite atoms react, tear and refract It be the sound in the motion, like the soul in the potion I’m pleased by the portions, every fraction important Soil to rock, born rotate in time A force for the mind measured cuz the pace is divine Kevin: Pleasure pain, saint and sinner we start again Man and woman, sun and moon our first daughter Mid night love, morning dew dawn is breaking Word is bond we think too much, it’s not too late to Start again, start again, creating all things Start again, start again, can you see the light Echoes from my aeon the curl of the helix The coordinated code that turns the cell into a phoenix Amidst the cold life force beats the sound once again Flesh becomes intellect — the god that pretends To know of the ends that expand just to meet Woman become the god that created the sea Stillness part of the womb that is a part from me In an instant eternal birthing all that is seen So watch and observe, speak it and learn At dawn turn to dessert, then a tree that will burn Release new threads, the fabric of truth Perfect imperfection the makings of you Kevin: Perfect imperfection

Mercy 03:42
Now I know the worst is for me Lord save some mercy for me Yeah, Yeah Floating over Saturn in a holding pattern Distance makes the storm system look like satin Between them sheets, Between them rings Antique Blacks coasting on a memory The cosmos move with the funk Funk and the cosmic is one Comically, we were all Brand Nubians once But split cold melons over the hue of the punch At a distance it look so smooth Emotion is the pace that we move Evolved from a sapien tool To the spirit realm dripping with clues Left by us when we knew that we knew Deliver me glaciers Polar opposite common sense so spacious, Reminiscing on meditation it’s flavours The reason life saved us, remove the murderous from the makers Now I know the worst is for me Lord save some mercy for me Yeah, Yeah Then Chico said: The universe insists that we major. Riders of the wave made it rain to break the chain, Achieve finer things, design the names Create the frame, hold the flame Benny said: Preach but damn, running man roll again A Dice thang, sometimes odds is nice thangs Sometimes just odd my advice, enjoy the flight Sip a drink but hold the ice. Chico rose and gazed upon a light bridge, Benny followed Passing through a million lives lived Between the matter that made their vessel More mind than metal Floating over Saturn, the highest levels The final Orbit, cycle, the furthest edge Chico tasted the tej, while Benny read From an ancient book of the grateful dead Turned to the first page Read the first line and it said, what it said? Now I know the worst is for me Lord save some mercy for me Yeah, Yeah

about

Beloved,

This is a warning from a certain general. As the introduction of this record clearly states, this record is not explicitly or exclusively about the great legacy of our dear Brother Malcolm. This record is not an ode or a retrospective. Put your ear to Phil Cohran and his Artistic Heritage Ensemble for that proper majesty. No this wax is not that at all.

The Price of Forgiveness.

So then what are we to make of this record with a heavy name? In my humble opinion it is at its heart two artists beginning the exploration of a PROGRAM. Malcolm After Mecca is indeed a program of self-actualization. The function that takes A to Z. The unpacking of what made the A in the first place and why it should aspire to that distant, hard knock, got-to-see-it-to-be-it Z.

“Observe the absurd parallel life-lines…” That all black rubiks cube I tend to call here and now. So true, we will all go back to the stars eventually. But what do we bring back with us to the hereafter? What becomes of the lessons in the mean between? Lord knows these cats don’t have a clue and yet they still reason over beats and I can dig that.

Cross the fader.

One inner G states, “I know who I am because I believe it.” Him gone. Another young blood drunken, fine and on fire states, “I’m here but I’d rather be in Atlanta shooting [redacted]! How sad is that?” Cold as a San Francisco Holiday but we can’t forget it. We have to find a better way for his sake.

We need a program.
As we proceed.
